about

A folk song from 2022 that recalls what happened on Columbia University's campus on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.

lyrics

If you go to the campus of Columbia U.
The FBI will spy on you
And if you discover I-D-A
The deans will shove you out of the way
To protect--its weapons research--for the war machine.

Inside I-D-A's think-tank building
Columbia's president went regularly
And with Bill Burden, a Columbia trustee,
Sat on the Executive Committee
Approving research--for electronic battlefield--Agent Orange.

At school's computer lab on 115th Street
Professor Garwin, he worked secretly
With other Jason profs he did design
Weapons used to create war crimes
Civilians killed--by air war--using sensors.

But students did chant "I-D-A must go!"
And Columbia's campus had a revolt
Barnard students also joined in
And cops they clubbed both women and men
TPF--cleared the campus--of its students--and professors.

A Columbia trustee, he owned the Times
So his newspaper, it printed lies
And what history books tell about 1968
Hides the truth, with words that are fake
And its professors--shield Columbia--cover-up.

Now Columbia still has its ROTC
And with I-D-A now works openly
And into West Harlem, Columbia's expanding
So Woke students, they are revolting
Seize Low--Stop Expansion--Ban ROTC
Tax Endowment!
